Site Management

At its core, this assignment was an exercise in site development and efficient topographical management/modification. The site presented the biggest factors to consider and overcome: the property widens and dips slightly as it moves from the north to the south, while steeply dropping in elevation from the eastern edge to the west. Only 30% of the 26,000m2 site could be used for construction and an outdoor pool was required. Structure-wise, the program mandated roughly 10,000 m2 of indoor space, no more than 15 floors in height and access to underground parking from the west. With the proposed building, calculations revealed the topographic material required to cut would be 6072.07m3, while 729.41m3 would be needed to fill, resulting in a net cut/fill amount of 5342.66m3. As maximizing space and minimizing cost were the primary goals, it was recommended that to reduce the amount of cut/fill, the building would have to fit onto a smaller, level section of the property, with a smaller footprint.
